It been almost 40 years since the Star Wars Episode One: A New Hope — the movie that changed modern filmmaking, and a genre — was released. In addition to the 9th film in the series (Not including Rogue One or the upcoming Han Solo movie), Disney and Lucasfilm is celebrating BIG LEAGUE!
And so is Hasbro.
Back in 1977, a small toy company named Kenner, won the license to produce toys based on the hit movie, but no one anticipated the massive reception it would receive. As a result, there were no toys ready for the Christmas season. #SadChristmas.
However, someone in Rhode Island thought it was smart to sell an empty box with the promise of action figures in the future. Guess what? It actually worked!
Now, for the 40th anniversary, Hasbro has reproduced the original Kenner packaging for it’s Black Series Line, including the early bird set.
The Legacy Pack includes a brand new Darth Vader 6″ Black Series figure on a vintage 1970’s Kenner bubble card.
I’m waiting (not so) patiently for Amazon to deliver my 40th anniversary Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia.
I’m as old as Star Wars, but like fine wine — or a great space western — we only get better with age!
